Here is some information on the functioning and the advantages of our automatic watch winders.
How an automatic watch works
To begin it is important to understand how an automatic watch works.
Watches are kept on time by a weight (a mass) that moves in the watch when it moves. It is this movement that charges the watch. It is therefore very important that watches stay in motion to keep them on time. When an automatic watch stops, all settings are lost, and must be reset.
What is a watch winder
Watchwinders, as the name implies, keep your watch wound, eliminating the need for manual winding. When your watch is not in use, it naturally stops running. On average, the mechanical energy available in your automatic watch is available for 24 to 48 hours. And so, there is no battery inside, it is necessary to "recharge" your watch, that is to say to wind up its driving spring.
Why wind your watch ?
An automatic watch winder is the right solution to overcome this problem. Just as a watch needs the movement of your wrist for the internal winding mechanism to work, the winder will reproduce this movement and keep the flywheel active: your watch stays on time! In addition, watch-winders are beautiful objects to contribute to the aesthetics of your desk, your library or your fireplace.
How fast should a watch winder turn? Difficult to answer, since... it's variable! There are in fact several possible speeds, depending on the brand or the manufacturer. This is called TPD (Turn per Day). Some winders offer a single speed, while others offer several. Also, the direction of rotation comes into play. Some watch winder models can turn both clockwise (CW) and counterclockwise (CCW). Not all watch-winders offer this option.
Some watch winders are battery and AC powered, some are AC only, and some are battery only. This is an important "detail" when considering a watch winder.
A watch winder is easy and simple to use. You won't have to worry about setting your watches. The case will naturally take care of it. Using a watch winder can also extend the life of your watches thanks to its specially designed automatic movement. In addition, owning these accessories gives more design to your desk, or other furniture. Some watch winders, in fact, have a style that allows them to be used as a piece of interior decoration in their own right. So if you are a watch lover, a watch box is the best way to take care of your collection and also to show it off to your friends and guests!
HOW DOES AN WATCH WINDER WORK?
As you will have understood, the watch winder is an electrical device which, by performing controlled rotations, will "wind" the mass of your automatic watch and thus keep it on time. As simple as that
The power reserve of your automatic watch can, depending on the model in your possession, quickly run out. 24 to 48 hours is the mechanical energy autonomy of your watch! However, you can overcome this problem with an object specially designed for this problem. All collectors are equipped with one! If you have decided to opt for a watch winder or if you are hesitating, here is some useful information about these remarkable watch boxes.
An accessory like the automatic watch requires frequent and repetitive movement from your wrist. When you are not wearing it, the watch winder will perform this action for you by automatically producing rotary movements. Watch-winders can be powered in several ways. Some are battery powered, while others are mains powered. However, there are watchmakers that use both types of power. However, rest assured, these winding devices consume very little power.
Different Types of Watch-winder
An automatic watch winder is not only useful for keeping your watch on time, but it is also an asset to your home. People often take pride in owning a beautiful and expensive watch, and it's only right that you should be able to show it off or display it.
If you are the proud owner of several watches, there are also winders that allow you to display (and wind) several watches simultaneously. Classically, in addition to the winders for one watch, you can easily find winders for 2 automatic watches, winders for 4 watches, 6 or even 8 watches. Some watch winders are even capable of holding up to 24 watches.

How to choose a watch winder box?
If you have decided to give your watch a watch winder, as we said above, there are a multitude of different watch winders, we advise you to look at these different criteria so that you are sure of your choice.
The number of slots
Obviously the number of locations is paramount and your choice will not be the same if you have one or 24 watches. Note however that the large winders are often very massive and imposing. So take care to choose the perfect location for your watches to be sublimated
The power of the motors
The power of the motors plays an important role mainly on battery powered watchwinders, some motors get tired faster. On our site, all the watchwinders have either a Swiss electric motor or a Japanese electric motor. A real guarantee of quality. The noise level of a winder can be described as minimal. Although we use only the best Swiss and Japanese motors, a watch winder is almost never completely silent. It is a mechanical device with various moving components (motor, drive and watch stand). The noise level of our watch winders is negligible. Their noise is only perceptible to a trained ear. Many of our customers even place their watchwinder on their bedside table without any discomfort.
Turns per minute and rotation modes
Watchwinders are very different in this respect. Many have a number of different modes. It should be noted that for 9 watches out of 10, 850 RPM will be more than enough. Regarding the direction of rotation Again, this depends on the model. Our non-adjustable winders turn alternately to the left and to the right (programmed in advance) and can therefore be used for all types of watches. The luxury models offer the possibility to determine the direction of rotation. The majority of watches, however, are wound by turning to the right.
Design and material of the winder
Several materials or combinations of materials are used for our winders. For the base and exterior, we mainly use solid wood of various species. MDF is also used extensively for the base with various finishes: lacquer, spray paint, coating, gluing, leather look or veneer. For our new line, we are using more and more plastic, metal and stainless steel.
For the interior, velvet, leather and plastic are the most used materials for an elegant finish. Colors, patterns and structures vary.
